The town also has an interesting Museo Civico, Pinacoteca, Museo Diocesano, Museo di Scienze Naturali, and a cinema.
Camerino’s history can be discovered everywhere in the town. After the Roman period, Camerino (whose ancient name was Kamars - rock or castle) became a stronghold of Lombard domination. Then it became a capital of the “Marca” during the domination of the Francs.
Camerino was part of the State of the Church until the Varano family was the ruling seigniory. Under the Varano dominion, Camerino had its best epoch of splendour.
During the 15th century, Camerino was center of a painting school, the most famous in the Marche, the “School of Camerino”. Hundreds of works from different schools and periods are nonetheless present in the four museums you can visit in Camerino. The opening times are confortable for tourists.
